Abstract

The finite element simulation of forging and rolling processes is acquiring an always greater importance in the industrial production of the last period. The motivations of the success of this technology are several. In the first place it allows a remarkable economic saving in terms of material on the finished product; besides the simulation helps to characterize eventual problems that can arise during the process and to solve them before producing the piece, drastically reducing the discarded pieces number. A production process already known can be moreover optimized, working on the reduction of the necessary times or on the amount of material. Still, it is possible to experience new processes and have direct information on the possibility to perform them. The present work is about the development of a finite element model for a process of forging and ring rolling. The purpose is to have a feedback about the defects arisen during the real production process and to suggest some solutions for a qualitative improvement of the final pieces.
